Disaster Risk Management Working Group

This Working Group is a technical initiative led by IAEG Peru to develop and promote scientific contributions to risk reduction and resilience building from a geoethical perspective. Established in 2023, the group brings together professionals and researchers committed to integrating geosciences with ethical, inclusive, and context-sensitive approaches to disaster risk governance. It plays a key role in connecting local expertise with global frameworks for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), supporting both academic research and practical strategies that respond to the needs of vulnerable communities across Peru and the wider Andean region.

🎯 Purpose and Vision

The GRD Working Group seeks to:

  • Contribute technical solutions to disaster risk management through applied geoscience.

  • Promote ethical principles in risk governance, planning, and territorial management.

  • Engage with decision-makers to ensure science-based and socially inclusive DRR policies.

  • Foster interdisciplinary collaboration to address complex hazards in Peru and Latin America.

📘 2023 National White Paper on Geoethics and DRR

In 2023, the group published a national white paper titled “Gestión de Riesgo de Desastres con Enfoque Geoético en el Perú” (Disaster Risk Management with a Geoethical Approach in Peru), highlighting current gaps, institutional frameworks, and proposing ethical principles for more equitable and sustainable risk management.
