The Peruvian Olympiad in Geosciences
Empowering Young Minds Through Earth Science Education
The Peruvian Olympiad in Geosciences is a national educational initiative promoted by Dr Sandra Villacorta with the support of IAEG Peru, academic institutions, educators, and geoscience professionals. From the first edtion, the Olympiad promotes Earth literacy, talent development, and equitable access to science education for high school students across Peru.
Founded in 2021 as part of IAEG Peru’s commitment to education, outreach, and inclusion, the Olympiad identifies and trains top-performing students to represent Peru at international events such as the International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO). It also supports teachers and schools in remote and underserved regions through tailored capacity-building activities.

Promote interest in geosciences among Peruvian youth.
Strengthen school-based geoscience education and teacher training.
Identify and prepare national representatives for the IESO.
Encourage participation of students from underrepresented and rural areas.
Foster values of geoethics, sustainability, and scientific cooperation.

🏆 4th Edition
The 4th Peruvian Olympiad in Geosciences is currently underway, with planned regional qualifying rounds and teacher training sessions which will be taking place throughout the country. Finalists will receive national recognition and may be selected for REPRESENTING Peru at IESO.
